One major advantage of building a new home is the ability to plan and site the home taking advantage of factors that can lead to dramatic energy savings. The Touchstone Energy® HomeSM standards were created with Indiana’s climate zones in mind and assure that appropriate energy-efficient design principles are in place. These include:

  • Home siting (orientation based on climate)
  • Thermal boundary integrity
  • Heating and cooling equipment energy efficiency (ductwork integrity)
  • Water heater energy efficiency
  • Natural cooling and solar passive radiation

To help guide you through this process, you’ll need a builder trained in these principles. Visit the Participating Builders page for a list of trained builders in your area. If you already have a builder, have that person Contact the program administrator to become trained and certified.
